Anna and Gino's honeymoon is tainted when Andrew arrives with a letter revealing the truth about Olivia's child. On Christmas Day, George and Sarah host a party for many of their friends and family, including Elizabeth, Roy, Doris, Jack, and a visiting Frank Gibbs. At Prudence's home, a smaller contingent gathers, including Carolyn, Anna, Olivia, Andrew, Delia, Henry, and Harry. All of the Bligh's family and friends are happy with the new directions their lives are taking, with the exception of Jack and Carolyn, who are both miserable. During the lead-up to the new year, a number of significant changes occur. Jack decides to go to Burma to reflect on his wartime service.

Carolyn suddenly returns to Inverness to confront Jack and asks to go with him to Burma. Elizabeth confides in Sarah that she has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. Delia leaves Prudence as all the interior design work has been completed in the Swanson home. As the new year dawns, Harry and Henry profess their love for each other, while Jack finally accepts Carolyn's olive branch. The percentage of approved Tomatometer critics who have given this title a positive review.
George overhears the hospital gossip and wonders if the baby could be his. Olivia continues her tryst with Lloyd, while James learns more about Dr. Fox. In Sydney, Douglas visits Elizabeth and puts his heart on the line, declaring his feelings for her. Sarah decides not to go through with the abortion but meets a desperate young woman and her mother at the clinic. After a debate about art, Sir Richard challenges Carolyn to write a critique for one of his newspapers.
This episode contains the ending originally planned for Season 2. When the show was canceled midseason, a new finale was made to wrap up the story lines. After the show’s unexpected renewal, the creators decided to pick up Season 3 following this cliffhanger. Regina lays her trap to win George’s affections, even as George resolves to leave Inverness.
